Watkins Glen to Celebrate 60 Years of Road Racing in 2008

Road racing at Watkins Glen has been a tradition in upstate N.Y. ever since, October 2, 1948, "The Day They Stopped the Trains" for the first post-World War II road race in the United States. Each year the Grand Prix Festival, held in conjunction with the U.S. Vintage Grand Prix, pays tribute to the first road race by hosting a race reenactment in the village.

WGI Inducts Otto Linton Into Legends of The Glen

Otto Linton is the final inductee to the Legends of The Glen for 2013. Linton entered a 1934 MGJ4 Competition two-seater in the 1948 Jr. Prix and Grand Prix. The formal announcement will be made during the PrixView Party Thursday night at Watkins Glen International.

Phil Walters Honored as Final Driver of the Decade

Craig Rust, president of Watkins Glen International, announced on Saturday, September 7 that Phil Walters has been named "Driver of the Decade" for the 1948-1957 time period. Walters is the sixth and final driver honored with the title "Driver of the Decade" and joins Graham Hill, Sir Jackie Stewart, Al Holbert, Mark Martin and Tony Stewart as a member of the inaugural induction class of "Legends of The Glen."

Formula 5000 Celebrates 40th During 60th at The Glen

- Formula 5000, once one of the premiere racing series' in the world, will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year at the U.S. Vintage Grand Prix, September 5-7. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the first race held on the streets of Watkins Glen, known as "the day they stopped the trains," on October 2, 1948.

Sir Jackie Stewart and Mrs. Bette Hill will participate in the pre-race festivities for the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen to accept the awards of Driver of the Decade and induction into Legends of The Glen. Mrs. Hill will be accepting the award on behalf of her late husband, Graham Hill.

Brian Redman Named Grand Marshal & Honored Guest

Brian Redman, one of the most accomplished drivers to compete at Watkins Glen International, will be the honored guest for this year's U.S. Vintage Grand Prix, September 5-7. The weekend will have special events to honor Redman and this year's featured marques, F-5000 and the Triumph. In addition, we will celebrate with Lola on their 50th Anniversary. Redman will also hop back into his legendary #1 Lola T332-Chevy and compete in the F-5000 feature race on Sunday, September 7.
