Chris Browning
During his tenure as track president, Darlington Raceway has made more than $20 million in capital improvements. In addition to the new Brasington grandstand overlooking turn one, Browning oversaw the largest one-time capital investment in the track’s storied history in 2007 when the track was resurfaced and a new infield access tunnel was constructed.
In addition to his duties at Darlington, Browning is also very active in the local and statewide business community. He currently serves on the South Carolina State Chamber of Commerce board of directors and the Darlington County Economic Development Partnership board of directors.
Browning began his career in motorsports in 1986 as a show car driver for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. He then became assistant director of public relations and marketing at Martinsville Speedway.
Browning served as director of public relations for Penske Speedways, which included Michigan Speedway, Pennsylvania International Raceway (later named Nazareth Speedway), and the Budweiser Cleveland Grand Prix, from 1988 until 1990.
In 1991, Browning returned to his home state of North Carolina to assume the role of account executive for the Maxwell House Coffee racing program handling public relations responsibilities for Sterling Marlin.
In 1992, he began his tenure at North Carolina Speedway in the position of public relations director and in 1994 was promoted to executive vice president and general manager.
Browning holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing and advertising from Pfeiffer College.
Browning has two children, Ainsley and Mary Beth, and lives in Florence, S.C. with his wife Lindsay.
